Generating automatic load combinations in SAFE & ETABS is easy but if your building bears other loads like hydrostatic and surcharge pressure or fluid pressure and temperature loading, unfortunately you have to create the load combinations manually. As the load combinations are vital part of the model as all the response of the building and design process depends upon robust load combinations and logics. ETABS gives you the option to start a new model by choosing the previous model to import all the settings you used for your previous project.
Here in this tutorial I am trying to make your life easy by sharing what I had been using to tackle this issue. Download the file and you will have two flowcharts (prepared inlucidchart.com) for service and ultimate load combinations so it’s easy for you to understand what load combinations you are using in your models. You will also find sample template models for ETABS & SAFE. Text and excel files for ETABS and SAFE, respectively are also included for you!
